Amy Whitaker, Assistant Professor, Visual Arts Administration, New York University and SNAAP Fellow

Amy Whitaker is an assistant professor of Visual Arts Administration at New York University, where she teaches classes in economics, entrepreneurship, and art markets. Her research concerns the economic sustainability of the arts and questions of equity--in the sense of both ownership and inclusion. She is the author of two books, Museum Legs and Art Thinking, and at work on a third book Economics of Visual Art. Museum Legs was the first-year read at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2010. Art Thinking was featured as a workshop at the Aspen Ideas Festival and is taught in various arts administration programs. Amy's academic work has been published or is forthcoming in Management Science, Visual Resources, Artivate, the International Journal of Cultural Policy, the Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies, and the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Review, among others. Amy is a SNAAP research fellow, collaborating with Greg Wolniak, a scholar of economic outcomes of higher education, on a study of socioeconomic and racial inclusion in the arts and on another study of art students who go on to pursue professional degrees in business and law.
