How can arts administration programs develop students’ research and data skills through real-world experiences that contribute new knowledge to the field? The Center for Business and Management of the Arts (CBMArts) at Claremont Graduate University has launched a research partnership with the LA County Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) in which student fellows carry out research projects based on DAC priorities, such as accessibility for disabled people and the relationship between race, ethnicity, and earnings in entry-level arts employment. CBMArts Director, Jonathan T. D. Neil and DAC’s Director of Research and Evaluation, Bronwyn Mauldin (also CBMArts faculty) will discuss the partnership value proposition. Two recent CBMArts graduates, Cobi Krieger and Katrina Sullivan, will share their experiences with the program. Laura Zucker, Head of Arts Management at CBMArts and former Director of DAC, will discuss why research and data are critical for education programs and local arts agencies alike.
