12 PM ET: Trends in Strategic Planning

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This interactive workshop will focus on the ways in which local arts organizations and academic art departments can use current trends in the field to inform strategic planning. At the onset of the session, research-based statistics which have a strong impact on this process will be highlighted. These strategies may include:

a. building earned income and donor relations in fundraising toward more sustainable business models
b. diversity, equity and inclusion
c. creative economic development and placemaking
c. value driven marketing to overcome barriers to reach new audiences
d. priorities toward adaptive operations during and after COVID-19

Leaders from an academic institution and a non-profit arts business will show examples of how these trends helped them build objectives which seek to adapt to changing environments and maintain a competitive edge in their market.

Participants in the session will be then be asked to identify similar areas of development for their own institutions. Ways to build ownership in this process from participating members of boards of directors and other personnel will be also be discussed, including methods to map out its successful delivery. In our challenging business climate, the workshop will seek to elevate strategic planning from being viewed as a secondary task into an essential practice which informs both long-term and day-to-day operations at arts institutions.
