NOTE: This is a shared time slot. This session will be immediately followed by "Arts, Advocacy, and Academia: A Student’s Perspective" with Paula Wilson

When addressing equity within the United States landscape, including, but not limited to equity within the arts, it is impossible to escape the nation’s history of slavery, genocide, and oppression, leading to systemic and institutionalized racism, sexism, classism, xenophobia, ableism, and, more directly, the rise and valuation of patriarchal white supremacy as the founding blocks of this nation. The arts and culture sector reproduces institutional and systemic oppression through upholding and centering white supremacist structures, often unconsciously. This manifests in predominantly white-founded, white-led and white-funded arts and culture organizations and institutions. Following the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, amidst dueling public health pandemics; COVID-19 and systemic racism, the Cultural Equity Learning Community (CELC) launched.

The CELC is an online learning community open to arts and culture leaders committed to building racial equity in the sector including a go-at-your-own pace two-unit course with complimentary wrap-around learning supports.

The CELC aims to:
1) Reduce harm towards Black, Indigenous, queer, trans and person of color (BIPOC | QTPOC), arts leaders,
2) Increase skill sets and accountability of white arts and culture sector leaders,
3) Examine what co-conspiratorship looks like within the sector, and
4) Deeply examine what it means to build anti-racist arts and culture organizations.

Over 800 arts and culture leaders across the nation enrolled in the pilot program, which ran from July 2020 - January 2021. This session focuses on sharing the learnings and unlearnings from the pilot, exploring the following questions:

> What does it take to reach a critical mass of activated co-conspirators to achieve a more equitable arts and culture sector?
> What is the responsibility of higher education institutions, and arts management and leadership programs in particular, in centering racial equity and intersectional justice in all facets of its work?
> How can emergent strategy be applied to encourage creative justice?
> How can the field move past learning into action and accountability?
